Super Hooping Event, UK – SWHoop 2 – Next weekend

If you’re in UK or Europe and into hooping there’s an event next weekend in Bristol, UK, the South West Hoop Conference, which is well worth checking out.

MoM dropped into part one today, and here’s our mini review. It was fab.

  • Atmosphere – Really friendly and a lot of fun.
  • Teaching – Super good, top quality international teachers.
  • Food – Mmmmmm and lots of it included in the ticket price.
  • Tea – Free and brewed properly (This get’s our vote).

We found out that there are some tickets still available for the second weekend, If you’re into hoop, it’s highly recommended, not cheap, but the money goes towards paying for excellent hoop teachers, which is always worth it in the long run.
Plus Ed is teaching a Waving (Wiggly Ed Dance) workshop next weekend and Mrs MoM is teaching a solo Charleston workshop next Sunday.

The Busking Project – Flowtoys video competition

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS – NOVEMBER 21ST — The Busking Project wants to see you in the streets playing with toys!

The Busking Project has just launched a new competition asking buskers to create a video showing not only WHAT they can do, but how they can use it to make the space around you more beautiful.

A worthy challenge, and there are some nice prizes for the best video submissions:

About manipulation

“About Manipulation” is a project wanted, created and directed by Moon and Ministry of Manipulation. We’ve tought there a lot of videos with people playing, and so few videos with people talking about their experiences and ideas in contact juggling. So we’ve tried to show you what’s behind a contact juggler, and what he lives with this amazing art.

Ejc was the perfect moment to do this full length (19 mins.) movie; we are sorry because there were so much great contact jugglers we’ve missed at Ejc (Okotanpe, Richard Hartnell, Kyle Johnson..just some big names)..but as you probably know weather was terrible and time wasn’t so much. We’ve chosen some interesting, new and old, personalities in contact juggling world, and ask them what’s contact juggling, how’s changing and where is going. So, this is a gift for the contact juggling community and for the new wave of contact jugglers. Hope you’ll like it…Please feel free to share it wherever you want. Big thanks to Stefano Ricci and Federico Tasso for the patience and help.

1 = The base code. Re-introducing people to themselves, how they move, and how to use it to our advantage. Your body is a prop too.
2 = How to stop, move slow, and move faster.
3 = Waves are more than just a dance. They go pretty deep too. I’ll help you understand them better.
4 = Illusion style Contact juggling. How to hold any prop, and make it look interesting. How to keep things still, move around things, and move things. Mind over matter.

Time to wake up and see what’s really going on! These techniques translate very easily to other areas of manipulation and performance. It’s no longer about what the ball is doing, it’s about what you are doing. no matter what prop you use, you’re there… I’ll install your Warp Drive, and make sure it’s functioning correctly. You won’t see things the same way again.

Kinesthetics and body-object manipulation: A week of workshops and research with Eimhin Shortt

Eimhin sent me this today:

Berlin June 6th-12th @Berlin

This event will provide a platform for some ‘serious’ fun and learning…

Beginning with an introduction to proportion and bodily geometrics we will move through the week developing both a simultaneously conceptual and physical understanding of the bodily space, how this space and the movement in it is affected by an object, and how to interact with an object in such a way that we come closer to the ‘body-object mean’, the balance of both so that the manipulator is also manipulated in a mutual interaction of skilled means.

Now doesn’t that sound scarily serious!?

Serious indeed, for what will effectively be a whole lot of spinning around, rolling around on the floor, throwing your body and other things, copying objects and figuring out how to shift force from a to b by progressively more efficient means. Don’t be put off by the ‘lingo’…
If you are into dance, object-manipulation, physical theatre or anything remotely related to these fields then this could be very interesting for you, if you’re into philosophy, science, mathematics or spirituality it will also be interesting for you. (;Its an inter-esse-t’ing;)

There will be two sessions each day, workshops from 12-3 and a later research/collaborative-jam sessions from 6-8.

There is a daily fee for the space (I’m trying to sort it for free but so far its €5/day) and after that donations for my efforts are welcome, how much or how little is up to you and if you can’t afford anything you’re still welcome. Similar workshops normally cost around €100-200 depending on the facilitator. Space is limited so please contact if you’ll be coming along:
